2024 Wormhole Racers,

Welcome to the first annual Wormhole Mountain Bike Race! We hope you will enjoy some of the best trails in the area while feeling a great sense of accomplishment upon completing the race.

PLEASE READ ALL BULLET POINTS

  • Not looking likely for rain but it might rain, it might not. The race is a go - rain or shine. Who doesn't love a little adventure? We do, however, recommend packing a light water/wind-resistant jacket.

  • PLEASE PLEASE notify us if you are unable to attend the ride.

  • Camping: Your race entry includes camping in the field for both Friday and Saturday nights. If you have reserved a private site, you will receive a separate email with further details. Please note that there is a limited number of private sites still available. If you wish to upgrade to a private site, please get in touch with me. If you choose to camp, you can check in starting at 3 PM on Friday. We need to leave the campground by 2:00 PM on Sunday. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Packet Pickup: - Packet pickup for the race will take place on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thunder Bridge Campground. Additionally, on Saturday morning, packet pickup will be available from 6:00-6:45 AM for the 100K race and from 7:30-8:30 AM for the 50K race. We kindly request that you pick up your bib on Friday night if possible, as it will help to reduce congestion and alleviate stress for our staff on Saturday morning.

  • Breakfast and Coffee: We have arranged to offer coffee and breakfast to riders on the morning of the race, starting at 6 AM. Non-racers are also welcome to purchase coffee and sandwiches. Asunder Coffee Roasters, located in nearby Buena Vista, VA, will provide their locally roasted coffee. Good Karma - Food on the Move, also located in Buena Vista, VA, will serve breakfast consisting of doughnuts and made-to-order breakfast sandwiches on the morning of the race.

  • The course is open to all kinds of vehicles on both gravel and pavement sections. Riders must comply with all Virginia traffic laws at all times. Moreover, these trails are accessible to non-racers as well. Hence, it's important that you act responsibly and be a good steward while you're out there. Please avoid putting our future permits in jeopardy!

  • Start - Both races start and end at Thunder Bridge Campground. The 100K race will start at 7:00 am. All riders are required to check in on Saturday morning before 6:45 am, regardless of whether they picked up their number on Friday night. The 50K race will start at 9:00 am on Saturday, and all riders must check in by 8:45 am, even if they picked up their race number on Friday night. Everyone must check in on the morning of the race so we can keep track of who is out on the race course.

  • Post-Race: After completing the race, riders will receive a meal ticket, drinks, and beer. If you are not participating in the race, you can still purchase additional meal tickets. However, to consume alcohol, you must be at least 21 years old. If you're under the age of 30, you will need to obtain a colored wristband from us to indicate that you are of legal drinking age.

    •

      • Food Menu: Hamburgers, Hotdogs, Veggie Burgers, Potatoes, mixed veggies, and more - Special Thanks to Bikes Unlimited who will be manning the grill.

  • 100K++ Course - The 100K will begin at 7:00 am. The course will be marked with white signage and white surveying tape at turns. Throughout the race, there will be signage directing racers by mileage. It is important to keep in mind that there is one critical turn where the course doubles back on itself that is not at an aid station occurring at miles 32 & 52. Also, there are two additional spots where the course will double back, both occurring at aid stations. We recommend uploading the GPS course to your device before the race as we can't control course sabotage. Please study the course to avoid any confusion.

  • 50K Course: The 50K race will begin at 9:00 am. The course will be marked with orange signage and surveying tape at turns. Although we will do our best to prevent it, we cannot guarantee that the course will not be sabotaged. Therefore, we kindly ask you to familiarize yourself with the route beforehand. To avoid any confusion, please make sure that you upload the GPS course to your device before the start of the race.

  • Aid Stations - Aid stations will offer water, soda, Tailwind, GU gels, bananas, baked goods, and more.

  • SAG- We will be providing limited SAG. Be warned there will be areas of the course without service. Remember that these guys are volunteering and will do what they can to help but are not a mobile bike mechanic service.

  • Dropping from Ride:  If you must abandon the ride, please inform the aid station team and/or send me a text (434-841-9188) with your name, number, and ride distance.

  • Medical & First Aid: If you need medical assistance, call 911 for emergencies then alert our team. For medical non-emergencies and first aid reach out to Nick on our medical team at 717-471-6511

I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have joined us for our event. A big shout-out to our sponsors who have made this event a success in its first year. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Bikes Unlimited, BMC, Handup, Tailwind, Cane Creek, Smith, The Black Bibs, and Amherst Mountain Biking Club for their valuable support.

I might have missed a few important points. If there's anything else you need to know, don't hesitate to contact me at jeremy@mmgendurancesports.com. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Thunder Bridge Campground on Friday night and Saturday!

Thanks,

Jeremy Ramsey
